Description
Introducing the Single Brush Stroke Dragon Painting, an ancient tradition passed down through generations, steeped in spiritual significance and folklore. Originating from Yamabushi Mountain priests, this unique art form was taught to me by my grandfather, Roshi Daiensai Richard Kirsten, who learned it from Roshi Kendo Khani. These paintings, believed to possess spiritual power, were used as talismans in rural Japan to ward off harm from natural disasters and accumulate treasure.
For 26 years, I have been dedicated to this sacred practice, creating these powerful images using water from springs sacred to serpent beings, especially those from volcanic mountains. After a three-year hiatus due to the unavailability of specific paper, I have resumed painting, aligning my work with astrological signs and ancient traditions.
These paintings hold a profound connection to the spiritual world. My grandfather, one of the first Westerners ordained as a Roshi and certified as an I Ching Priest in Japan, instilled in me the importance of this tradition. Before each painting, I chant the Heart Sutra, invoking the dynamic exchange of Form and Emptiness, the true nature of reality.
The power of these paintings has been quietly affirmed by the experiences of those who possess them—a local coffee shop reported no illnesses during the pandemic, and several homes withstood a 6.8 earthquake without damage. While these may be coincidences, they echo the ancient belief in the protective and healing powers of the serpent.
Now, you can own a piece of this sacred tradition. Order an astrology reading and receive your own original serpent painting, or purchase a 16×20 painting for $650. Larger custom sizes are available upon request. Embrace the power and beauty of the Single Brush Stroke Dragon Painting, a timeless connection to the spiritual world.
