On Friday Aug. 19th, 2010 Mercury is going retrograde in Virgo. Mercury likes Virgo…Mercury really likes Virgo, so here, retrograde motion is not to bad. Virgo is in a psychological sense about healing, nurturing, feeding, and refining. It rules the intestines, the organ of digestion. It also rules the art of analyzing. So as is usual with Mercury Retrograde we should be taking a second look at these things.

It is said that contracts are often dysfunctional, electronics that are bought during Mercury Retrograde fail, or Automobiles, airplanes, mechanical transportation vehicles fail. Why is this said? It is that Mercury rules negotiations, going from here to there swiftly, electricity, sales, communications. Everything under this influence is effected in a Mercury Retrograde period, but does it mean they stop working or don’t. Of course not, you are looking at your computer right now. One astrologer friend worked at a computer/ software help center. His own private research suggested that repair/ help requests went up around 10 % during Mercury Retrograde. This is not that much, but a noticeable effect on computers.

I tend to always buy my computers on Mercury Retrograde, and …they work fine. I also tend to always do repair work on my car during Mercury Rx. I do it on purpose, I plan it as a way of honoring Mercury. Hey, if Mercury is asking for a little attention, perhaps we should give him some, that is how I think about it.

Retrograde means not going to go with the flow. That is how this all comes about, that is why they say travel plans don’t go well, but does that mean don’t go, not at all, sometimes, not going with the flow is the greatest adventure one can have. Sometimes miscommunication becomes the communication that was needed to get out of a rut!

One friend of mine has been planning to move for a month to Florida now, she canceled the whole thing yesterday (she is highly Gemini, and thus very influenced by Mercury) Canceled the Movers, canceled the apt. she was moving into, everything. That is Mercury Rx, just revisiting the whole damn move. She says she will be happier. You see …benifits to Mercury Retrograde! Because you get to rethink a few things, and you might even Rethink them for the better.

Here he is, better pay attention to him when he is Retrograde

Hah, Mercury has gone retrograde again. Usually this is met with quite a good deal of misery. Everyone runs around hollering about broken computers, broken down cars, crashing airplanes and everything else that can and does go wrong concerning business, contracts, travel, and electronics. It is actually a time of great joy, because we are given something to blame the struggles of our modern life on. “It is Mercury Retrograde” we can shout from our cubicles and feel no remorse about the disasters that are falling down upon us, like fire and brimstone from the planetary gods above.

But, that is not the best use of Mercury Retrograde. The best use, or…should I say, my personal favorite use, is to go back and pick up projects that have dropped off my radar. This is the astrologers trick for Mercury retrograde…any thing that has to do with a RE- is ok. So restart your projects, buy a refurbished computer, repair your car and get in good with Mercury.  He is quite happy to help you, if your willing to play along with his wily tricks. Mercury will be retrograde until the 11th of May 2010.

After many months of not getting to this blog, I have decided to take the opportunity of Mercury Retrograde to launch it. That may sound counter intuitive, but that is what Mercury Retrograde is really about anyways! Mercury has the highest eccentricity of orbit of all the planets in the solar system. Retrograde means going against what the tribe thinks is normal. Retrograde also means redoing things. I have now rewritten this blog 6 times during the mercury retrograde cycle.

I was born with Mercury Retrograde combusting the Sun, so it is like a native feeling for me. Communications become confused, electronics and vehicles break down, cleat thinking becomes a challenge. That is what a mercury retrograde native is used to. It feels like home. To be born with Mercury retrograde means that your ability to communicate and think is different than mainstream society. It means that you will have a heightened sense of intuition. It also means that more often than not, you will put your foot in your mouth.

What to do, if it is native, or if you are just experiencing its effects temporarily until the end of the month, the answer is the same. Slow down, become more thorough, take the time to revisit old ideas and start putting them into action. An individual with Mercury Retrograde must become very conscious of how they communicate, for they are apt to be misunderstood. This is how to make use of Mercury Retrograde.

I suppose I should put in the old adage and say don’t buy cars or electronics, or sign large contracts while Mercury is retrograde. So cheers to all of you! Be eccentric and enjoy the Retro Cocktail and Revisit some old ideas! Mercury will be retrograde until the June 1st..
