First his birthtime is March 12th 1947 9:51, in Detroit, Michigan. The most striking thing right off the bat for me is Mercury, Sun, and Mars occupying Pisces. Pisces is a very ephemeral sign. Mercury is not happy in Pisces and with Pisces being associated with the feet can really be called the “foot in mouth” placement of the that lovable planet of speech. Since Mercury and Mars are conjunct in the Pisces, we can see that Mr. Romney is not prone to thinking before speaking, and that does get him into trouble. As the campaign heats up look for him to say some politically incorrect things over and over. It is not that he necessarily means them, but they just come out of the mouth.
With the Sun, Mercury, Mars combo in Pisces he also does not have solid internal direction. This is becoming symbolized by the etch a sketch. It is not saying that he does not have a good heart, or that he does not mean well, but like all heavily Piscean charts it is very difficult for him to know a clear and precise course of action. We can thus say he relies on his advisors.
He was born with a Part of Fortune on the Midheaven, in aspect to its ruler. This is a very wealthy chart. The Part of Fortune on any angle gives greatly to the native, especially on the asc. or Midheaven. It does this even more so if in aspect to its ruler. Who is its ruler? Its ruler is Saturn, the father, in the fourth, the place of the father. Mitt Romeny made his own fortune? Hah. His fortune came from his Father and the business opportunities his father gave him.
Saturn is in Leo though, its fall, thus we can consider that his father and families traditions are a source of difficulty for Mitt Romney. They are alternative to what the mainstream of society looks for. That is ok though, for he is fortunate to have Moon and Jupiter exactly conjunct, meaning that he is emotionally positive and has a generally positive emotional outlook. You know that overly happy smile he is always wearing….well its real.
Mars is on the bends of the Nodes making him a warrior. If he were to be President, with no doubt America would see an increase in its war expression. He likes to conquer, this might be part of what drives his success. I would not be hesitant to say that he has a bit of cruelty hidden in his private life. But as with all wealthy public figures, chances are we will not ever hear about that.
There are 5 major planets in water signs, this further reinforces his elusiveness and ability to flow into any mold that fits. This is all for your consideration. Interpretation of the Aries Ingress 2012 using the considerations of Guido Bonatti. Guido Bonatti was a very well learned astrologer in the 15^th century. He wrote an entire treatise on how to predict the fate of nations using astrology. Predicting the fate of nations is considered the highest and most difficult form of astrology. Here I will be attempting to use his methods to make predictions for the upcoming year, in general and with some specifics. I wish to express here, how after years of study with good teachers and reading good authors, I am still a student of astrology. So I do not vouch for these as being complete truths that are accurate prophecy. Rather for my own learning, and with the intent to provide something interesting to those who know me and those who read the blog and Heartastrology Facebook page, I am sharing this exercise with you.

The chart that is to be used, according to Bonatti, whose methods all the following prognostications are based on is the chart that occurs at the closest second that the Sun enters the first degree of Aries in the Capital city of the nation in question. Of course we are using the Tropical Zodiac, as we are speaking of the seasons.

First we decide on the ruler of the people. Most commonly it is the ruler of the Ascendant and the Moon.  Bonatti has given 12 methods and fifty four considerations to decide on the ruler of the People, or the Ruler of the Chart. I have determined that by his considerations, it should still be Jupiter.

Next we decide the ruler of the King, or in our case as citizens of the United States, our President. Most commonly the ruler of the 10^th, which is the house of the lord, is taken. But using Bonatti’s Methods again, I have determined that it is the Sun in Aries, conjunct the Fourth House cusp (the Imum Coli) that is the President.

Having decided first these two things, what can we tell. First the People being ruled by Jupiter is fortunate. It is in the Fifth house of joy and leisure, in the Taurus, the sign of prosperity and abundance, and conjunct Venus, the planet of women, enjoyment, and food. Jupiter is not harmed by a Malefic planet nor is it severely afflicted in other ways. This would tend to indicate that for the American people, the economy will continue to improve over the year. There will be good crops, and wealth. Entertainment will be good and there will be fortune and strength for Women and women’s needs for the year. It is a year of plenty by this consideration, and the fortune of the nation shall indeed be in general good.

Next considering the President in the chart we may find the following. The Sun is in its exaltation in the sign of Aries in the fourth house. Given that it is a presidential election year this is good fortune for the President. The strength fo the placement indicates that he will hold his house, which is the white house. In the house of Mars, we know the president will be fiery. With Mercury under his beams we know he will be a great orator again for the election.  In the fourth house, the house of the enemy of the king, we can say he will bring the fight to the Republican candidate and his forces will conquer there name through his propaganda. We also know there will be sudden turns of events in the election cycle as the modern planet Uranus is within the mix.

Concerning the issue of war, of which we have seen much in the news lately. Bonatti clearly states that if Mars is retrograde and cadent, war will not come to the nation. Further he states that if military action does occur it will be short of duration. Since Mars, the planet of War is in the Ninth house, we can say there will be war in foreign nations, but they will not be clean. The American people, represented by the Moon, shall on the whole oppose the notion of war and there will be further pressures to withdraw from Afghanistan.

For soldiers and vets there fortune is mixed for the year.

Mars in the ninth shows a great deal of debate over religions place in the nation during the year. Since it is the highest planet in the chart, this and conflict in foreign nations dominates the national dialogue. I fear it is a resurgence of old fundamentalism, trying to take rehold of the American culture. However with Mars opposed the moon, the people do not wish it.  I do hope it does not also portend more protests at universities, but I believe it does. Likewise I sincerely hope it does not show a shooting at a University, but it may. Likewise there could be the death of significant religious figures by acts of violence

It is said that when Mars and Saturn are above the horizon but no benefic is, this is a sign of suffering for the nation. I believe this is indicative further efforts at “austerity” by our political leaders as well as a sense of trouble in the world. Like wise because the two malefics are in opposite hemispheres it indicates that the East and West of the nation will be in argument. I take this to refer to election politics.

With Jupiter and Venus conjunct in the fifth house fortune for the year shall come through farming, plants, art, entertainment, minerals, and all things that have to do with construction.

The south shall have a hot dry summer in general and the North shall suffer from storms and winds.

The other side of the coin is astrology for the personal. This is based really on two points. The Ascendant and the Midheaven are the two points this type of astrology is based on.  The reason for this is these are the only two points that are personal to you. All the other planets are in their turn shared by many people. But the rising point, which is the Ascendant, at the moment of your birth and where it puts all of the planets, which houses it places them, are how your soul is bound to the matter of incarnation.

For this reason then we experience transits to these personal points, they have strong effects on how one’s life direction turns. These points drive the course of your incarnation and become very strong signifiers of how your life will play out. Bernadette Brady calls the Ascendant the motivation of the person. More commonly it is referred to as the personality of the chart. The personality of the chart seems to me to be a bit of a shallow interpretation, for the personality of the chart, is all the planets, taken on their whole, with the Ascendant, Moon, and Sun being the strongest combined influence.

If we  take motivation to be the meaning of the Ascendant, and Activity to be the Midheaven, then we can see that a transit to these points, or the planets ruling them, cause life changes. I post this in the context of Mercury Retrograde. If Mercury Retrograde crosses one of these points in your chart, or the planet that rules these points, then you will notice its effects strongly, otherwise it will be a more casual effect.

Ok, since it takes Neptune roughly 165 years to float through the Zodiac, then lets again head back to 1848 and see if we can find any patterns that are now repeating themselves. Two things strike me immediately for the year. Eureka!  The first is thing that really sticks out to me is the California Gold Rush. To me this really emphasizes the boundless hope and delusion of a great many people. Neptune in Pisces really took a good deal of poor folks for a ride on that one! I am unable to see a similar occurrence at this time, please let me know if you do. I do expect a similar type of wealth delusion to arise over the year. One that seems as if it can uplift any man into riches with a simple Eureka!

On a positive note, in England the board of Public health is established, giving a broad and uplifiting capacity for the English Government to establish uplifting health care for the nation. Now wait a second….Did I just say that? Last time Neptune was in Pisces Health Care was established for the people! ok, Neptune is Idealism, and Pisces is for the people. Interesting cycle loop though, dont you think. For it is this year that the majority of Obamacare starts taking effect.

Another big key event is the publication of the Communist Manifesto. This again strikes the note of idealism, and the commonality of the people. I think this is a key word for Pisces. We are seeing a reflection of communism in the Occupy movement, which like communism has swept the world demanding justice for the 99%. This is a very strong cyclic show for Neptune returning to Pisces.

That was  a few themes for the outer world transformation during Neptune in Pisces.

Now lets look at our own charts as individuals. Where Pisces falls in the chart will be the house that is ruled. For example, if Pisces falls on the third house, that of kin, brothers, writing, neighborhood, small journeys. Then you will get the Neptune effect in those houses. This will fall in the entire range of good and bad of Neptune. That is the line from deception to illusion to mysticism to channeling to intuitive insights to compassion to empathy to dissolution to uncertainty. You will likely see all of these things arise in this house, as Neptune takes you deep into your soul in this area of your life, the cusp that Pisces rules, and asks you “what is true here”.

Now, here I am going to list them in terms of what I think is important so don’t be shocked.

First Venus Mars aspects.  This is for a romantic relationship, both of these planets rule sexuality, and if there contacting each other. Hallelujah, you are going to have good sex in your relationship. Good sex releases all of those wonderful chemicals and pheromones that make it feel good to be with the other person. Thus it helps your relationship get through hard times. Now if you want to say relationships aren’t about the good sex then we will move on to the next subject.

Second are the Sun and Moon aspects. These two rule a soul’s ability to think and be and know one another. Thus we can say that harmonious aspects here mean the two people understand one anothers motivations. Thus they can be good friends and when the going gets tough, this will help see them through it.

Third are Saturn aspects. Saturn is karma and fate. Thus if you have Saturn in the chart, you tend to be stuck together in a relationship. Now this isn’t that great, really, because Saturn aspects are heavy, and the one whose Saturn aspects are in the chart tends to drive the other person “relentlessly” and to be very hard on them. Some astrologers also call this the heartbreak aspect. Often times Saturn aspects create a hard lesson that the relationship teaches. Also though, it creates a strong bond.

The Fourth place to look is the Nodes. The Nodes also describe fate, so node contacts indicate where there is fate. This is the fate of growth, or comfort, depending on the node. The Growth node is the North Node, a North node conjunction implies the partner pushes you forward. A south Node conjunction implies that you are being given comfort in this relationship.

The water dragon year starts on January 23^rd this year. There is always a great deal of excitement when the water dragon years arrive. This must be for good reason, for it is a Dragon that is arriving. The Dragon years in general are known for the excitement and the unexpected. The Dragon itself is symbolized holding a powerful ball of chi, surrounded by storm clouds, rain, and thunder. Folk lore throughout the world, and especially in Asia, had Dragons being responsible for thunder, rain and storms. It was the dragons themselves making the sound of thunder when they roared, the lightning in the storms, was the fire and energy they were spitting out of their mouths.

So the dragon years are associated with power, thunder, the unexpected, quickly changing events, sudden reversals of fortune, and accumulations of wealth. In all cultures dragons were horders of wealth, so we can look forward to a year when there is the ability to grow wealth again. Unlike the playful and dispersing rabbit, who is beneficent and fun loving, the Dragon is serious. This year we will all be experiencing sudden turns of events and dramatic life changes. It is the will of the Dragon. Let’s look deeper though, for its not just the Dragon, it’s a Water Dragon.

Now the last two years of the 60 year cycle have been clashes. Last year was Wood Metal, which clash, this year, is Water Dragon, Dragon is the Earth element with the storage of Water in it. So although it seems Water and Earth Clash, they do not, the Earth is storing the Water. That indicates that there is more harmony this year. There will be less combat and upheavel and more accumulation of resources and power and displays of that power. For instance it was in the last Water Dragon year that the Unites States started pushing its nuclear weapon program and England announced that it had the Nuclear Bomb.  Also at this time though the Korean war wound down. The fierceness of the dragon does not equate to war.

It does equate to earthquakes though. It is a folk belief that Dragon movements in the earth cause earthquakes. It can be noted that the last  Water Dragon year was the year of the Kamtchaka Earthquake, which caused the last major tidal wave to strike the American coast line. Also, the greatest earthquake ever recorded, a 9.2 occurred during a dragon year. So keep it stable this year with your good thoughts and aspiration! Also, the stored water of the Dragon, when released can come out as floods, or even hurricanes. We could see a strong Hurricane season this year, as the Dragon releases it waters.

This brings it back to our own lives. During Dragon years, there is a dynamic, pulsating, and powerful capacity for us to change the direction of our lives permanently for the good. It is a year when if you strive and accomplish. This is true for all activities associated with the elements of Water, Wood, and Earth. Thus it is a good time to grow businesses (earth), engage in spiritual pursuits and the study of psychology (water) , have children and families (wood). As a few examples.

For those born during the Years of the Dragon and Dog, the Dragon energy can cause difficulties. The folk remedy for this is The Rooster who harmonizes the Dragons energy. If you are such a person, it is good to have roosters around this year!

After, or before, every Solar eclipse is a lunar eclipse. Sometimes there are lunar eclipses before and after solar eclipses. This time, there is just one afterwards. It is occurring on Dec. 10th, and visible above the west coast of the United States. You can read about it here: http://shadowandsubstance.com/.

For those who study astrology, the study of the eclipse cycles are very important. One can find that they flavor international events for there duration of effect. Again the duration of the effect is measured by the time it takes for the eclipse to occur. For every hour of the eclipse we count one year. There is a sage who lived in 8th century Iraq. He said, “it is fitting to know the Ascendant of the middle of the eclipse, ans the one who is in charge of the same Ascendant and its figure. Which if it were a malefic, it will signify impediment and destruction. But if it were a benefic, it will signify fitness. It is also said we can tell by a lunar eclipse the weather for the following season, this would depend if it were in an Air sign, Water sign, Fire sign or Earth Sign.

So lets look at this eclipse. First we find that the eclipse (for Arcata California) is occurring with Sagittarius Rising. Thus the eclipse is ruled by Jupiter. This is a benific, so those who fall under the eclipses shadow shall receive benefit. Woohoo. Rejoice, sing praises to the Lord Jupiter. Mercury is conjunct the Ascendant, what kind of benefit, it is the benefit of ideas, communication, trade. This Mercury is ruling the midheaven. We can generally surmise that on the west coast of the United States favorable economic conditions will arise for the next four years. This will be due to technology and trade. Perhaps it is such that the United States will move to more Trade with Asia as the European Economy struggles, and this will be of benefit. Perhaps this has to do with alternative energy.  Because Mercury rules the Midheaven, this signifies good for the Governer’s of the West, as well as the President of the United States and the Prime Minester of Canada over the next six months.

The eclipse is occurring in the dry sign of Gemini during the winter. I would then say this foretells of a dry winter for the west coast with high winds.

Hmmm.. just a second, I said something there funny. I said all eclipses foretell doom. What do i mean by this? Let me explain myself before you new age folks who think everything will always end with Amethyst colored transcendence start writing me by the boatload to explain how this is counter to the teachings of the Ascended master Hung Ka Ra Rooo. The Sun is the light of the world, as is the moon. The darkening of the lights of the world, is a traumatic experience. During Eclipses there is always a charged energy, and this energy is foreboding. When an eclipse strikes a pivotal point in a chart. Be it, a planet, an Arabic Part, or a Midpoint, it is going to impress an energetic pulse into that point. If it is a national chart, it will describe the funtion of that point being eclipsed.

You can see how this eclipse conjunct Mars and Pluto in a loose stellium aspects the Egyptian Midheaven by conjunction hits Egypt hard. The Midheaven always represents the leader of a nation. Here, the power of the Eclipse destroyed the reign of Mubarak. Mubarak ruled Egypt longer than anyone since the Pharaohs. With this eclipse to the ruler though, him staying in power would prove impossible.

This eclipse was very difficult. The eclipse occurring between the North Node and Mars spoke clearly of violent change. Did the eclipse shadow Egypt? Yes, it did. It occurred over the entire mideast. Did a number of mideast rulers fall. They did. This eclipse speaks of the Arab Spring. The eclipsing of old leaders and regimes.

Sorry, I digressed.  The current Eclipse of November 25th as I said falls over Antarctica, as well as South Africa as well as Tasmania and New Zealand. We can safely say that the eclipse effects will be stronger in those areas. The eclipse is in an a Fire Sign. What of this, Fire in South Africa during the heat of their summer? Fires in New Zealand?

I think its safe to assume, that to be certain an eclipse will effect a nation as a whole, or a people, it needs to be seen by that nation or people. However, on a personal level, if the eclipse is with in 3 degrees of a personal point, by a conjunction, square, or opposition, I have seen enough examples to know that it does effect the native. How is that effect described. It is described by the adjectives of the planet or point that it aspects. I know of a man who the current eclipse squares the ruler of his health. He just found out that he has prostrate cancer. I can assure you that he has not been to the Antarctic any time of recent!
